Who we are
Community Outreach Ministry Eastside began in 1986 as an outgrowth of the food pantry at Cumberland First Baptist Church. It all started when two pastors who led ministries in their day jobs and attended the church sought to form a wider network to better meet the needs of our community. Today, seven area churches are united to sustain this local outreach ministry. We are guided by a board of directors made up of the member churches. If your church or community group is interested in joining us in making a difference, give us a call. We would love to work with you!
The powerful idea that everyone deserves access to nutritious food and the dignity of compassionate neighbors unites different faith traditions and different counties. The pantry is hosted at Cumberland First Baptist Church free of charge, and as an entirely volunteer organization, we maintain very few overhead costs, allowing the majority of donations to go directly to those in need.

We believe it’s more than hunger
At our pantry, we believe food insecurity isn’t just about hunger; it’s a symptom of deeper, systemic challenges. Low wages, rising living costs, limited access to affordable groceries, and gaps in public support all contribute to a crisis that affects millions of hardworking individuals and families. Understanding the full picture is essential to creating real, lasting change. That’s why we invite you to watch the documentary Food Insecurity, a powerful, eye-opening look at the root causes of hunger in our communities and the everyday people impacted by it. Their stories may challenge assumptions and inspire action.
